DIGITAL FABRIC
PRINTING
|
Introduction:
Fabric Printing has always used a
limited number of colors for printing, which is still the primary method
of today. However, with the introduction of digital printers and certain
software RIPS, you can also print an image containing thousands or
millions of colors. This is accomplished in the same way you would print
a fine art reproduction. Now anything is possible with fabric printing. |
Software
for Fabric Printing: There
are several approaches to printing with
selected colors. An image file, such as a tiff ,containing millions of
colors can be turned into an index file of limited colors. Continuous
tones are broken up into specific shades. There are several software
packages that are designed to accomplish this effect. The greater the ability
of the software to accomplish this task as well as others effects, the greater
the cost. We have
chosen packages that offer the most user-friendly interfaces with strong
features. Software that can handle the many tasks needed for Fabric
printing can range in price up to $30,000 We have put together different
packages for different levels.

| Inks for Fabric Printing: There are several different ink sets for fabric printing. Unlike photographic and fine art printing different materials require different ink types. There are also special fabrics designed to be waterproof with dye inks. I will discuss this in another topic later. The sets are: Reactive, Disperse, and Acid. We offer Bulk Ink Systems with the best ink at the best price. |
| RIPs for Fabric Printing: One of the functions of the RIP is to control the amount of ink used and balancing the ink dot gain from O% to full 100%. This is of primary concern for quality printing and necessary to prevent bleeding. Because of the numerous colors used for fabric printing, the RIP must be able to run multiple channels. Such as: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, Light Magenta, Blue, Black, Violet, and etc. The RIP also has numerous features: Tiling, Step and Repeat, Cropping, Scaling, Color Tuning, and Layout. |
| Steaming Fabrics Printed with Reactive Inks: Reactive inks used in printing various fabrics like cottons need to be steamed for the color to become saturated and permanent. |
