Epson printers are well designed and have been proven to be the leading printers for photography, display, and fine art. They are low in cost as compared to professional printers made from Mimaki, Mutoh, and Roland. They have led the field in pigment inks. All this has been valuable for the advancement in Digital Printing. However, Epson printers need to be maintained just as the other professional printers. We have prepared guides to help you maintain and repair your Epson Printers.

The knowledge I am about to impart has come from our experience in maintaining and repairing Piezo inkjet printers.

Our intention is to educate you to be able take care of your own printer.

Epson printers are not user friendly for cleaning or maintaining. The pads of the capping station, the wiper, the bottom of the heads and dampers are not easily accessible.
Our guide to maintenance will allow you to keep your printer running well for years.
Epson does not promote daily maintenance. Pigment ink will dry on the docking station where the heads sit if the printer is not used daily. Pigment particles need to be broken up to allow the pads of the docking station to properly perform routine head cleaning.
We have developed a powerful cleaning fluid CLF1 to be used in an eye dropper bottle for easy maintenance.
Epson offers a one year warrantee, but does not inform you when servicing is needed what the cost will be.
We are offering instructions on the replacement of parts.
From the time you start printing, the printer counts actions and when it reaches the designated number it shuts down the printer. This usually happens after the first year, just when the warrantee is over.
We can supply you with the codes to reset the counters, and put your printer back in operation.

Locating the Capping Station:

This diagram shows an overview of the inside of the 7600/9600 printer. In order to get access to the inside of the printer, we have prepared a step by removal of the covers. The capping station is where you place droplets of CLF1.

This is what it looks like when in use. With the use of cleaning fluid placed on the pads frequently it will remain clean.

Above the capping station to the upper left is the wiper. It should be replaced at least once every two years.

Next to the docking station is the Flushing Box pad. This pad will become saturated with ink over time and need to be replaced. It is important to make sure that the pad does not protrude upward. Replacement cost is about $90.00, expensive for a pad; however, it comes with a box attached.

In order to get access to the capping station you must first move the head to the left. Locate the cutting blade as shown below press down and pull carriage to the left to allow you to get to the capping station.

Replacing the Dampers and or Head:

In order to replace the dampers or the head you need to remove the covers. Follow the next steps. Remember the Printer must be unplugged.

By removing the following screws you will be able to safely remove the printer side and top covers. You should remove both sides of the Printer. Be careful to remove the control panel. Remove the Screws first. Look over the entire guide to get an overall understanding of what is involved. This whole procedure should take about 20 minutes.

Remove the Ink cartridges and follow the directions to remove the cartridge cover station.

Remove the handle on the lever.

Remove the covers now, but follow carefully the method of removing the control panel.

Remove the Right Side Cover and place the Control Panel on top of the frame. You might want to tape it there.

At this point all covers should be removed and you can comfortably continue to replace the dampers.

Replacing Dampers:

Slide the Carriage out to the Middle of the Printer. Remove the screw. You will need a Philips screw driver. The screw does not have a nut on the other end so be careful. Turn gently and slowly.

With the Screw removed you will be able to pull out the damper assembly. Do not touch the head lever. The way to remove the damper assembly is to pull up as high as you can and then pull forward. (Up and Over) Then unclip the 3 hooks as shown below. Check each damper one at a time. The white nut should be hand tight. Be sure to take note how each damper is placed in the bracket. It will be obvious to you, once you see it. Replace on damper at a time to make sure you do not change the order they are in.

To remove the head remove the screw on the right to release the head. Slowly lift he head and remove the cable attached to it.

The picture above shows the metal lock plate that holds the head in place. There is a ribbon cable attached to the head. Be careful not to damage it.

The head below contains what is called the Head ID.

The cable slips into the connector with pressure. Make sure the cable is placed with the silver contacts facing down.
